CAIRO – 14 July 2022: Two children were killed and 13 others were injured after the driver of the minibus carrying them lost control over the steering wheel and plunged into a roadside irrigation canal [El-Salam Canal] along the Damietta-Dakahlia road on Wednesday evening.

 

The deceased are two girls, 11 and 15 years old, eye witnesses told Youm7.

 

The children were on their way to their homes in Lisa Al-Jamaliya, Dakahlia Governorate, after attending a Qur’an memorizing competition.

 

The children were transported to Dakahlia Hospital after the local residents managed to pull the minibus out from the canal.

 

Al-Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, according to a statement from Al-Azhar Sheikhdom on Thursday.

 

Tayeb ordered to disburse urgent sums of money to the families of the deceased and the injured, provide monthly financial subsidies to those in need, and provide the necessary health support for the injured, such as surgeries and medical supplies in Al-Azhar University hospitals.

 

He also commissioned a high-ranking Azhar delegation to to offer condolences to the families of the victims and to check on the injured.

 

Meanwhile, Governor of Dakahlia Ayman Mukhtar ordered to send financial aid to the families of the deceased and injured children.

The governorate will give the families of the victims LE 8,000 (US$ 423.94) each as an urgent financial aid, while the families of the injured will be given LE 2,000 (US$ 105.96) each, according to a statement from the governorate.
