LONDON -7 July 2022: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigned on Thursday as leader of Britain's Conservative Party.
In a televised speech on the steps of Number 10, Johnson said he had agreed with Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the backbench 1922 committee, that "the process of choosing a new leader should begin now".
But he will stay in post until a successor is identified, Johnson said. A timetable would be confirmed next week, he added.
