CAIRO – 14 July 2017: Jellyfish that was spread through Egyptian North Coast started to disappear in all beaches, reduced to Gamasa only, along with the emergency status imposed by Ministry of Environment that still occurred till the end of August.

“Immigrant Jelly fish has disappeared from Egyptian coast except for “Blue jellyfish” that still exists with minimal numbers in Gamasa beaches,” said head of National Institute for Oceanography and Fisheries Gad El Kady.

Kaddy noted that the jellyfish that exists in other beaches are already recognized in the Egyptian marine environment.

“The situation under control, we only advice people to follow beach instructions,” Kady added that the institution communicates periodically with major touristic entities to give them advices in case numbers of jelly fish increased suddenly.

Kaddy referred to “Blue fish” that’s considered most dangerous type as it produces caustic liquid that can burn human skin, but it is not poisonous.

The shores of the North Coast and the Mediterranean cities of Alexandria and Port Said have been known to have jellyfish, but they can be found at more shores this summer than in the past.
