CAIRO – 5 July 2022: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed Tuesday officials to expand accredited oncology centers in Egypt in line with the international standards along with taking into account the population distribution nationwide.
Sisi's instructions came during his meeting with Presidential Adviser for Health Affairs Mohamed Awad Tageldin and Chairman of Kasr Al-Ainy School of Oncology Professor Hamdi Abdel Azim, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Sisi ordered to establish a center for excellence in women's health and oncology at Dar Elsalam Cancer Hospital, which will be funded by Tahya Misr Fund.
Meanwhile, Tageldin said the presidential initiative for women's health contributed to developing a system for diagnosis and treatment of tumors, especially breast cancer, by using modern medicines, which reduced death rates.
The initiative also contributed to automating the Health Ministry's oncology centers to set up a database for all cases of breast tumors in Egypt, as well as training specialized medical teams, Tageldin added.
Abdel Azim, for his part, noted the initiative helped, over the past two years, in examining 17 million women, terming it as the biggest national project of its kind for treating breast cancer in developing countries.
Abdel Azim mentioned that the presidential initiative contributed to reducing the percentage of breast cancer cases in Egypt that are diagnosed in the late stages from 60% to 30%.
The meeting reviewed a project to develop the hospital to become an advanced center for diagnosing and treating breast cancer
