CAIRO – 14 July 2017: Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb has strongly denounced the attack that targeted a police check point at Giza governorate Friday morning, leaving 5 police officers dead, statement reported.

Al-Azhar confirmed its long-standing positions on rejecting such violent and terror acts that aims at undermining the security and stability of Egypt, expressing support to Egyptian police and army, and asking them to continue confronting everyone behind these coward terror attacks.

Al-Azhar, the world's oldest seat of Sunni Islamic learning, further expressed in the statement its condolences to the families of martyrs, asking God for peace upon their souls.

Five policemen were killed earlier in the day when unidentified gunmen opened fire against them at a checkpoint in al-Badrasheen area.
