CAIRO – 22 June 2022: Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies and its Mexican counterpart have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation and exchange of expertise.
This came as the two countries held the tenth session of political consultations in Cairo chaired by Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs Mahy Abdel Latif and Deputy Foreign Minister of Mexico Carmen Moreno.
The MoU comes within the framework of enhancing bilateral relations with Mexico and achieving the optimal benefit from the scientific and research potentials in both sides, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.
The signed MoU includes holding training programs and sessions, organizing researches and joint studies, and exchanging diplomats, experts, and researchers in the fields of mutual interest.
During the consultations, the Egyptian and Mexican delegations highlighted the importance of continuing coordination on issues of mutual concern.
This should achieve and boost the mutual benefits for both sides in a way that suits the economic and political potentials of both countries and their regional and international significance, the statement said.
The two sides exchanged their visions regarding regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Libya, the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and the developments of the Palestinian cause.
They also discussed the political developments in the Latin continent during the recent period.
During the meeting, the Mexican side expressed its keenness to continue coordination with Egypt regarding the developments in the Middle East, especially in light of the pivotal Egyptian role in the region.
This comes as discussions touched on Mexico's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2021/2022.
Abdel Latif expressed Egypt’s keenness to boost cooperation with the Mexican side in all fields, especially trade and communications besides tourism and cultural and scientific exchange.
The meeting reviewed Egypt’s planned hosting of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) set to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh city next November.
The meeting addressed means of enhancing bilateral relations between Egypt and Mexico at all political, economic, and cultural levels.
The officials also discussed ways of enhancing trade exchange and boosting Mexican investments in Egypt in light of the success achieved in this regard over the recent period.
Moreover, the two sides discussed intensifying the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries in a way that contributes to boosting and expanding their bilateral relations, the statement added.
