FM reviews Egypt’s vision on COP27 on sidelines of IsDB annual meeting

CAIRO – 2 June 2022: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has reviewed Egypt’s vision on the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which Egypt will host in November, on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

The IsDB annual meeting is held this year in Sharm El-Sheikh city with the participation of ministers and officials from member countries and representatives of international and regional organisations and financial institutions.

During a session entitled "The Road to COP27: Transitioning to a Green Economy" held on the sidelines of the meeting, Shoukry affirmed in a speech the need to move to comprehensively and effectively implement the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The Egyptian foreign minister also urged continuing implementing climate pledges announced by the world countries.

Shoukry highlighted the necessity for exerting further efforts by the various relevant parties regarding climate change adaptation and mitigation and securing climate-related funding.

COP27, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh city, aims at building on the progress achieved during the previous Glasgow summit last year and achieving further progress in all climate topics, the minister added.

Shoukry stressed the need for concerted efforts of various parties to implement climate pledges and turn them into a tangible reality.

To achieve this, the Egyptian presidency of the conference has been keen on communicating with all parties concerned with international climate action, including countries, organisations, the private sector, financial institutions, civil society, and academic circles in this regard, Shoukry said.

The minister highlighted the need to work on providing climate finance to developing countries in a way that enables them to fulfill their commitments, taking into account that they are the most affected by climate change repercussions even though they are the least contributor to emissions.
