CAIRO – 21 May 2022: The Eighth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians will be hosted by Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh on June 15 – 16, and is being jointly organized by the House of Representatives and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The conference that is held annually is aimed at promoting the participation of youth in politics, and creating a platform for them to present their views on international challenges and issues as well as suggest solutions.
The seventh edition took place virtually in 2021 as the last edition that was held physically convened in Paraguay in 2019.
Egypt won the hosting of the coming edition in light of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi's instructions to expand the participation of youth in action pertaining to a number of global issues such as climate change, which is one of the topics included in the agenda.
Egypt's interest in climate change mitigation and adaptation is also embodied in its hosting of COP 27 in the same resort town on November 7 -18.
Delegations of young parliamentarians will arrive from 90 countries, which is considered an accomplishment achieved by Member of the House of Representatives Sahar al-Bazar, who is the first female MP to represent Egypt at the Forum of Young Parliamentarians, affiliated with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
