CAIRO – 29 May 2022: Egypt condemned Israeli authorities for allowing groups of extremists to storm the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the protection of the Israeli police, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez in a statement on Sunday.

He warned against possible tensions and escalation due to such practices, which target stability in the Palestinian territories.

“Al-Aqsa Mosque is a purely Islamic endowment for Muslims,” he said, affirming that putting an end to violations targeting the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of the city of Jerusalem and all its holy sites or changing the historical and legal status quo is a must.

Hafez called on the Israeli authorities to bear their responsibility in terms of the rules of international law and to immediate intervene to stop those provocative practices that inflame the feelings of Muslims.

For the first time since occupying the eastern part of Jerusalem, Jew settlers toured raised on Sunday the occupation flag in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, in a dangerous provocative development.

“They crossed the Damascus Gate and marched through the main thoroughfare in Jerusalem’s Old City all the way to the Western Wall,” WAFA reported.
