FM reviews Egypt’s vision for COP27 in World Economic Forum session

CAIRO – 23 May 2022: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reviewed on Monday the country’s vision regarding the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which Egypt will host, in a session held within the framework of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

The session comes under the title: The Road to the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC: Partnerships between the public and private sectors in climate action in the Middle East and North Africa.

Egypt will host COP27 in November this year in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Shoukry, also president-designate of COP27, participated on Monday in the 2022 annual meeting of the WEF in Davos, where he is scheduled to discuss COP27.

The Egyptian foreign minister is scheduled to meet with a number of senior officials from various countries and parties participating in the forum on the sidelines of its activities, to consult on the ongoing work to prepare for COP 27 that would be held in the Egyptian city Sharm El Sheikh on November 7-18.

Shoukry would also discuss ways of cooperation to enhance international climate action at various levels, especially with regard to adaptation measures and mitigating climate change’s negative repercussions, in addition to providing climate finance and implementing climate pledges.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Shoukry also met with Chief Executive Officer of Boston Consulting Group Christoph Schweizer, a COP27 partner, where they discussed means of mobilizing climate finance and the role of the private sector on the international climate action.

Egypt launched the National Strategy for Climate Change 2050 to improve the citizens’ quality of life and sustainable economic growth and preserve its natural resources.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that the national strategy for adapting to the climate change impacts has been prepared to lay down a general framework to identify problems in all affected sectors, and then to enhance how the society can cope with risks and their impact on various sectors.
