CAIRO – 21 May 2022: Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said that the objective of the national dialogue, which has been announced recently by him last month, aims at listening to people’s opinions for “the sake of the nation.”
President Sisi’s comments were stated during his meeting with a number of editors and media professionals from Egyptian newspapers, on the sidelines of his tour of Egypt's Future Project for Agricultural Production, which he inaugurated on Saturday.
Talking to the Egyptians, President Sisi said that all data is available on the governmental websites and on the presidency's online page, calling for people to voice their views on what should be done more for the sake of the country on a scientific basis.
On April 26, 2022, President Sisi announced - during the Egyptian family's iftar in the holy month of Ramadan - directed the National Youth Conference management, in coordination with all political parties and youth currents, to conduct a political dialogue on the priorities of national actions during the current stage.
A joint impartial committee will be formed and will be tasked with compiling the outcomes of the national dialogue in a unified preliminary document that will be submitted to the Egyptian president.
Dozens of institutions have already announced their participation in the national dialogue, including the Syndicate of Journalists, the Coordination of Party Youth, the National Council for Women, the labor union, the Presidential Pardon Committee, and several political parties, including the Salafi party of al-Nour.
The national dialogue comes as part of Sisi's national human rights strategy, launched in September with vows to open the public space to be more and more inclusive. As such, hundreds of inamtes, including dozens of human rights activists, have recently been released by the Presidential Pardon Committee.
