FILE: Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady
CAIRO – 20 May 2022: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has appointed the official Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady as Egypt’s ambassador-extraordinary and plenipotentiary-extraordinary to Italy.
The official was published two days ago in the official gazette Al-Waqa'i' al-Misriyya to come into force on the following day of the publication.
Rady was appointed as a presidential spokesperson in October 2017 to be the third spokesperson since President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi won his first term in 2014.
He assumed several positions since he was appointed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991. He was Deputy Ambassador to Japan, and Consul-General of Egypt in Istanbul, besides Egyptian embassies in the UAE and Italy.
Rady, who can speak English, Italian and French, obtained a Bachelor of Computer Science and Nuclear Physics, from Ain Shams University, in 1990.
He obtained his Crisis Management and Negotiation Fellowship Degree from Nasser Higher Military Academy (NHMA) in 2005. Then, he was a member of the national committee on drafting a new anti-terrorism law in 2015.
Rady also was a member of the Higher Security Committee for Combating Terrorism headed by the President’s Advisor to Counterterrorism Affairs in 2015.
He headed the Egyptian delegation that participated in all international meetings on combating international terrorism, on top of which is Global Coalition Against Daesh, 2014/2015.
In addition to this, he specialized in monitoring the activities of extremist groups and the Muslim Brotherhood.
Rady’s nomination as an ambassador extraordinary to Italy has widely been reported by Italian media, saying it is a “high-level nomination,” Egypt’s state-owned news agency MENA.
