CAIRO – 17 May 2022: Egyptian Journalists Syndicate will organize Tuesday a memorial service to commemorate the Palestinian Journalist Shereen Abu Akleh, who was assassinated by the Israeli occupation forces while carrying out her coverage duties.
Diaa Rashwan, the head of the Syndicate of Journalists, had announced the syndicate will hold a memorial service for fellow martyr Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead by the Israeli occupation forces.
The memorial will be held at 7 p.m. at the headquarters of the syndicate in Cairo.
Rashwan renewed his condolences on behalf of all Egyptian journalists to the martyr journalist’s family, friends, fellow Palestinian journalists and the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.
He further stressed the need for the international community and the International Criminal Court to hold Israel accountable for its recent crime against Abu Akleh, the martyr of the press, and to open a broad international investigation into all the repeated crimes of the occupation forces against journalists, especially Palestinians, in violation of all international laws.
On May 11, The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate released a statement condemning the killing of Palestinian Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by the Israeli occupation demanding all concerned United Nations agencies "to protect Palestinian colleagues while practicing their profession from the Israeli forces' aggression against them."
The syndicate described Palestinian journalists working on the occupied lands as the world's eye on the truth about what is happening in Palestine, calling on them to exercise caution while doing their job.
Abou Akala was shot dead while reporting on a raid committed by the Israeli forces in the West Bank's Jenin city. Also, Palestinian Journalist Ali Samoudi was shot while reporting on the same incident, and is still receiving treatment.
