Security source denies claims that Matrouh detainee died of torture

CAIRO- 16 May 2022: A security source has denied claims that a detainee was tortured to death at a police station in the Mediterranean city of Matrouh.

Speaking to a channel affiliated with the out-lawed Muslim Brotherhood group Sunday, the mother of the defendant falsely said that her son, who has a criminal record and was held pending an investigation into robbery charges, died after being tortured.

The security source said that the defendant was hospitalized after going through a health problem; however, he died while being treated.

A medical report explained that the defendant died of a sharp drop in blood circulation, the source noted.

He stressed that all legal measures were taken.
