CAIRO – 12 May 2022: Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad held separate meetings on Thursday with her Congolese counterpart Ève Bazaiba and head of the Swiss delegation on the sidelines of her participation in Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.
During the meetings, Fouad probed with the DRC and Swiss officials means of boosting cooperation, plans for lowering carbon emissions in Egypt, and the preparations for the hosting the 2022 UN Climate Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The Egyptian and DRC minister agreed on holding a technical meeting on the level of experts and scientists to shed light on the impacts of climate change on the natural resources, including forests and biodiversity.
Fouad on Wednesday discussed with French Ambassador for Climate Change Negotiations Stéphane Crouzat preparations, which are being made by Egypt for playing host to COP27 in Sharm el Sheikh.
Fouad commended everlasting cooperating between the Egyptian and French sides in a number of developmental domains.
The minister said she is looking forward to more bilateral cooperation with France as far as climate change issue is concerned.
Climate changes took their toll on several sectors, including water, food security and agriculture, according to her.
Several initiatives will be launched to help achieve goals of the climate gathering, added Fouad.
For his part, Crouzat said his country is looking forward to cooperating with Egypt in several fields that concern climate change phenomenon.
Fouad announced in April that the initiatives to be announced during COP 27 are pertaining to water; agriculture; nutrition; relation between diets on one hand, and crops, health, modes of production and consumption on the other hand; management of coastal areas as an example of coexistence measures aimed at achieving sustainable life for local residents; blue economy; management of waste, particularly plastic; and, showcasing the value added derived from waste recycling in the form of green job opportunities, sustainable quality of life and formalization of the informal sector.
The minister added that Egypt will also display success stories of climate projects executed in various locations. Those include small and medium enterprises as well as mega ones.
Fouad asserted that COP27 will cover climate funding, dimensions of coexistence, priorities of developing countries, updated national contributions of states, goals, and experiences.
