CAIRO – 9 May 2022: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, inaugurated on Monday the new Egyptian embassy headquarters in Morocco’s capital, Rabat.

Shoukry, during the inauguration, affirmed Egypt’s keenness to enhance relations with the sisterly Morocco, urging continued support to the Egyptian community residing in Morocco.

Shoukry held a meeting with Bourita on Monday during the former’s official visit to Rabat.

During their meeting, the two ministers reviewed boosting bilateral relations between Egypt and Morocco and also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In a joint press conference with Shoukry, Bourita stressed his country's support for all efforts exerted by Egypt to protect its security and stability.

Bourita said that Egypt's security and stability are crucial for Morocco and for the whole Arab World.

Bourita, meanwhile, said that he affirmed during today's meeting Morocco's condemnation of the deadly terrorist attack that targeted a water lifting station, east of the Suez Canal in Egypt on Saturday.

He also affirmed the kingdom’s solidarity with and support for Egypt in taking all necessary measures to protect its security and stability.

Extending deep condolences to the Egyptian government, people and the families of the victims, Bourita further wished speedy recovery to those injured in the terrorist attack.

During his meeting with Shoukry, Bourita said that he referred to the directives of Moroccan King Mohamed VI to hold continued consultations and coordination with Egypt on all regional and international issues of mutual concern.

He also hailed the ties binding Morocco and Egypt, describing them as "special", saying that these ties have political, economic and humanitarian dimensions.

An agreement has been reached to hold a political consultation mechanism soon and promote economic cooperation in the various spheres, said the Moroccan foreign minister.

He further said that an agreement has also been reached to coordinate and hold consultation on pressing regional files.

Morocco is keen on Egypt's regional and national interests, he affirmed.

Egypt and Morocco share identical viewpoints toward various issues, he added.
