CAIRO - 9 May 2022: Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit discussed during a meeting with Canadian Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Robert Oliphant means of bolstering bilateral ties.
A well-placed source at the pan-Arab body said Monday the two sides' talks took up bilateral ties in the various domains.
They also reviewed latest developments on the regional and international arenas, especially in Palestine.
The AL chief reiterated the importance of reaching a peaceful and final solution for the Palestinian problem, including ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds (Eastern Jerusalem) as its capital, the source said.
He called for a Canadian action in support of a two-state solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, it added.
The meeting also touched upon the latest developments regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the source said.
The AL chief accentuated the importance of working out a solution for the GERD file, that would preserve water rights of both Egypt and Sudan, according to the source.
Meantime, the two sides also tackled the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its impact on global food security, it said.
