CAIRO – 9 May 2022: Egypt’s Law No. 202 of 2020 aims to issue a law regulating waste management, to eliminate the problem of garbage and waste, through the establishment of a body tasked with organizing and managing waste.

The body not only helps achieve improvement of waste management service that is environmentally safe, but also attracts investments into the sector.

According to the executive regulations of the law, this body is responsible for coordinating with the Ministry of Local Development and the New Urban Communities Authority, in preparing a strategy and a detailed action plan at the national level to organize demolition and construction waste management operations within the strategy.

The New Urban Communities Authority, in coordination with the new city authorities, provides data on the current situation for the management of demolition and construction waste

The Ministry of Local Development is coordinating with the governorates, and the New Urban Communities Authority, in studying and identifying sites designated for the establishment of fixed and mobile demolition and construction waste recycling stations.

Concerned authorities are also studying and identifying sites dedicated to bury non-recyclable demolition and construction waste.

The body prepares technical requirements and manuals to guide contracting companies and individuals generating demolition and construction waste, which helps to reduce the generated quantities, separate the waste and reuse the largest percentage of it at the nearest site.
