CAIRO – 6 May 2022: A security source said claims made by a pro-Muslim Brotherhood individual regarding an assault by a police officer on a citizen in Egypt is untrue, local media reported.

The source denied the authenticity of the video circulated on social media by “one of the elements loyal to the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood.”

The video viewed by the pro-Muslim Brotherhood Youtuber, Abdullah Al-Sherif, shows a person who is claiming to be a police lieutenant named Samih Abdel-Wahab, while assaulting a man and putting him inside the car trunk.

The alleged officer then obliged the man to crawl on the ground as a way of humiliation.

The source affirmed that the video is fabricated and that there is no police officer called Samih Ashraf [Abdel-Whab]. The car shown in the video is also being examined, the source added.

The claims in the video are “completely untrue and come as part of the terrorist group's attempts to spread rumors and lies,” the source added.

Over the past years, Egypt has affirmed attaching great importance to the human rights file and has allowed many human rights organisations and foreign media to follow up on the human rights situation inside Egyptian prisons.

In September, Egypt also issued its National Strategy for Human Rights 2021-2026, the first of its kind, to identify a number of challenges that the government aims for mitigating.

The strategy consists of four sections that are Civil and Political Rights; Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights; Rights of Women, Children, Disabled, Youth, and Elderly; and, Awareness and Capacity-Building in the Field of Human Rights.
