CAIRO – 3 May 2022: Swiss Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa Wolfgang Bruelhart displayed late in April his country's strategic priorities on the region in 2021-2024 during his meeting with Director-general of Cairo Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding in Africa (CCCPA) Ahmed Abdel Latif.
Those priorities are peace, security, human rights, migration, sustainable development, economic affairs, and digitalization. In that framework, Bruelhart, who was holding a visit to Cairo, expressed his country's keenness on cooperating with Egypt on furthering relevant goals.
On his side, Abdel Latif presented the center's work in the field of training and capacity-building pertinent to the realms of conflict settlement, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, combating extremism that leads to terrorism, disarmament, dismantling of armed groups, reintegration, women empowerment, peace, security, combating human trafficking, climate change, security, and development.
The Egyptian diplomat underscored that CCCPA in the only of its kind in the Arab World due to the variety of its training programs, and the option of delivering them in the Arabic language.
Abdel Latif added that CCCPA also assumes the duties of the executive secretariat of Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, and the secretariat of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC).
The Swiss diplomat said that Switzerland aims for adding conflict resolution, mediation, and peacebuilding to the existing cooperation with the CCCPA, which is currently limited to combating human trafficking, and migrant smuggling.
