CAIRO- 29 April 2022: The recently-reactivated ‘Presidential Pardon Committee’ will hold its first meetings, on Saturday according to committee member, Tariq Al-Awadi Friday.
Head of the Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee at the National Council for Human Rights, Walaa Gad Al-Karim, said, Thursday that the Council will share its database of prisoners in pretrial detention with the recently-reactivated ‘Presidential Pardon Committee’.
He added that reactivating the presidential pardon committee is an important step in the path of freedoms because of the role the committee has played in releasing a large number of defendants since 2016.
He pointed out that the pardon committee will help resolving the ‘political prisoners’ file, which the council has been working on since a long time.
Gad Al-Karim said that this move confirms that the state began to reconsider the detainees’ situations, especially after getting over its war against terrorism.
During the Egyption family Iftar, Tuesday, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi announced reactivating the Presidential Pardon Committee which was formed as one of the outcomes of the National Youth conference, as it will expand its cooperation with the competent agencies and civil society.
During his speech, Sisi expressed his happiness at the release of new batches of Egyptians during the past days, and stresses that the country accommodates everyone.
