CAIRO - 18 April 2022: The UN Security Council will hold Tuesday a session of consultations on Libya ahead of the official session, which is scheduled to be held on April 30.
During its April 30 session, the UN Security Council is scheduled to discuss extending mandate of UN Support Mission in Libya, reported Libya State News Agency (WAL) on Monday.
The inter-Libyan meetings between the Joint Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High State Council (HSC) resumed for the third day in a row, on Friday, in Cairo to reach an agreement on the constitutional basis.
The talks tackled the executive mechanisms required to approve the constitutional and legislative basis for the national elections in Libya, Libyan sources told Youm7 on Friday.
The sources added that the meeting has been prevailed by a positive atmosphere and the participants were keen to ensure the national interest.
The head of the Egyptian National Committee on Libya has welcomed Libyan parties participating in meetings of the Libyan constitutional course committee.
He conveyed to them the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, affirming Egypt’s constant keenness to provide all possible support for the Libyan people in a way that helps achieve peace and stability in Libya.
The UN-sponsored Cairo-hosted meetings urge the international community to support institutions representing the Libyan people to back consensus among Libyan parties as the only way to end the crisis.
On Feb. 18, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with the head of the Libyan Presidential Council,Mohamed Al-Manfi, in Brussels, discussing the developments of the situation in Libya and efforts to restore security and stability in the country.
President El-Sisi confirmed Egypt's full support for the current political path to settle the Libyan crisis at all bilateral, regional and international fora, and its keenness to enhance close coordination with Libya at the current time to implement the free will of the brotherly Libyan people, said Spokesperson for the Presidency Bassam Rady in a statement.
The head of the Libyan Presidential Council expressed his sincere appreciation for Egypt’s genuine support for his country, within the framework of the extended and brotherly relations binding the two countries and peoples, Rady said.
Manfi also valued Egypt’s diligent efforts led by the President to support Libya, particularly its contribution to restoring the national institutions and unifying Libya’s national army. This is in addition to the vital Egyptian supportive role at the international level for the current political track in Libya, Rady continued.
The meeting reviewed the developments of the situation in Libya and efforts to restore security and stability in the country.
The President stressed the continuation of Egypt’s unwavering position towards achieving the supreme interest of the Libyan state in the first place, stemming from the principles of preserving Libya’s unity and territorial integrity, restoring security and stability, having a unified national army, ending foreign intervention, as well as the withdrawal of all mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya.
