French, Belgian ambassadors express sincere thanks to President Sisi for swift action towards Aswan crash

CAIRO – 14 April 2022: The French Ambassador in Cairo, Marc Baretti, and the Belgian Ambassador, François Cornet, praised the quick move of Aswan Governor Ashraf Attia in the early hours of the collision of a tourist bus and a vehicle collision on the Abu Simbel Road Wednesday.

 

Both diplomats expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, for his interest and keenness to follow up on the repercussions of the accident, in addition to his condolences to the families of the deceased.

 

The ambassadors of France and Belgium also praised the rapid movement of the Aswan Governor in the early hours of the accident, and his personal supervision of providing first aid and therapeutic intervention to the injured, while providing aspects of psychological care, and providing them with all medical and personal supplies.

 

A truck and a tourist bus crashed on Wednesday, causing the death of five Egyptians and five foreigners, according to officials. The crash also wounded 14 people, including tourists from France and Belgium.

 

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended his condolences to the families of the victims of an accident involving French and Belgian tourists on a highway in Aswan, southern Egypt Wednesday, saying Egypt will give the victims and their families all kinds of support.

 

“I extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased, praying to God almighty to bless the victims with his mercy and to inspire their families and relatives with patience and solace,” he said in a Facebook statement.

 

“I am closely following up on the accident of a tourist bus colliding with a truck in Aswan Governorate and instructed the concerned authorities to take all the needed measures, provide all aspects of medical attention and treatment for the victims of the tragic accident, and follow up on their condition,” he added.

 

Sisi also said he ordered that all kinds of support be given to the families of the victims. Ten people died in the accident, where a pickup truck collided with a tourist bus. The victims include one Belgian and four French tourists and five Egyptians.

Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) Mohamed Omran held talks Thursday with officials of the Egyptian Compulsory Insurance Pool (ECIP) on the repercussions of Wednesday's tragic tourist bus accident on the Aswan/Abu Simbel road.

 

Aswan Governor Ashraf Attia visited the injured in the accident inside Aswan University Hospital in order to check on their health, in addition to providing all facilities for the exit procedures for those who had recovered and transferred them to Cairo with the accompanying tourist group.

 

The governor stated, in a statement today, Thursday, that permits to bury the bodies of the victims of the accident were completed, in the presence of the ambassadors of France and Belgium, Minister Plenipotentiary Dalia Abdel Fattah, General Supervisor of the General Administration of International Relations and Agreements at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, as well as the President of Aswan University, Dr. Ayman. Othman.
