CAIRO – 12 April 2022: While he was inspecting the control and follow-up operations center of the National Network for Emergency and Public Safety, on Tuesday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi gave directives for the governors to continue monitoring the markets during the holy month of Ramadan to ensure the regulation of prices and the provision of goods to citizens.
“The most important matter for us as a government is that we have to be present in the streets and markets from now on so that we can be assured that things are going well,” President Sisi said.
Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady said in a statement that President Sisi was given a detailed presentation about the center, where the latest technologies are being used.
“The center is an important component for enhancing the emergency and public safety system by communicating rapidly with the various governorates, linking all emergency elements and vital facilities, and receiving different calls from citizens, keeping up with the latest global systems in this regard,” said Rady.
The President also conducted a practical experience through the operations center by making a call to the specialized operation rooms in the governorates of Suez, Ismailia, Port Said, South Sinai and Luxor, added Rady.
“The President was reassured by the governors on procedures for activating the system in each governorate,” Rady continued, saying that President Sisi gave directives for full coordination between all concerned authorities to attain the goals of the system, particularly the swift response to all kinds of emergencies and crises. On March 31, 2022, President Sisi issued a decree no. 130 of 2022 to extend the implementation of decree no. 442 of 2021 concerning imposing security measures in Sinai to preserve security and protect facilities.
The measures will be extended for an additional period of six months starting from April 3, 2022.
In October, the President declared the cancellation of the extension of the state of emergency throughout the country.
“It is my pleasure to share together this moment, for which we have always striven with hard work. Egypt has become - thanks to its great people and loyal men - an oasis of security and stability in the region; hence, I decided, for the first time in years, to cancel the extension of the state of emergency throughout the country,” says President Sisi on his official Facebook page.
“This decision was having been made by Egyptians themselves over the past few years throughout their honest and sincere participation in the efforts of development and construction,” he added
“When I declare this decision, I do remember, with honor and respect, our heroic martyrs, without whom we would not have achieved safety and stability,” he continued.
“Together, we steadily move forward to a new republic, with God’s help and support. Long live Egypt, Long Live Egypt,” he said.
Egypt had declared a state of emergency in April 2017 following two bombings that targeted two churches in Tanta city and Alexandria and claimed the lives of 45 Coptic Christians and injured dozens.
The state of emergency has been extended on the grounds of fighting terrorism, protecting national security and implementing development programs in a stable climate.
Since then, the state of emergency has been extended every time for three months. The last three-month extension for the state of emergency was decreed by President Sisi on July 22, 2021, and became effective on the 24th of July.
