CAIRO – 8 April 2022: Dozens of Egyptians head, Friday to The Cathedral of St. Mark in Alexandria to participate in the funeral prayers of the Archipriest Arsanious Wadeed, the priest of Church of Virgin Mary who was killed late Thursday after a man attacked him with a weapon on the street.
After the prayers, the body was carried to the monastery of the martyr Marmina for burial, in the cemetery of the martyrs of Alexandria.
The Evangelical Community and Catholic Church stressed the brutal crimes against the Christians won't undermine Egypt's unity and strength.
In a statement, the Evangelical Community, headed by Andre Zaki, mourned the death of Arsanious Wadid. Zaki offered his sincere condolences to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese and the Egyptian Orthodox Church over the tragic incident.
Also, Coptic Catholic Patriarch of Alexandria Ibrahim Isaac extended his condolences, saying such incidents won't undermine the fabric of the Egyptians.
Residents of Muharram Bey street in Alexandria reportedly seized the man who attacked the priest, and the weapon. The man was then arrested by the police, and Egypt’s Top prosecutor ordered speed completion of investigations into the murder.
The priest of Church Virgin Mary was walking in the street when a man attacked him with a bladed weapon, causing him severe injuries, and he was announced dead at the hospital.
Pope Tawadros mourned the priest of Alexandria, saying: “We bid farewell to a virtuous priest and an active servant.”
