CAIRO – 7 April 2022: The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) says extremely hot weather continues on Thursday, which marks the sixth day of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, but temperatures will drop starting Friday.
In a statement, the EMA warned citizens against direct exposure to sunlight but said temperature will decline gradually during the coming week and weather will be spring-like.
On Friday, temperature will decline by 5-6 degree Celsius, the EMA expects, noting that citizens can wear light clothes during daytime but especially children and the elderly should keep wearing heavy clothes during nighttime or early morning.
Greater Cairo, the northern coasts, northern Upper Egypt, and southern Upper Egypt will see highs of 39, 38, 41, and 43 respectively on Thursday, the EMA said.
Windy and sometimes dusty weather will also be seen in areas of Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, western Egypt, and southern Upper Egypt, according to EMA’s expectations.
Ramadan weather, procedures
Egypt has seen extremely hot weather during daytime and warm weather during nighttime since Ramadan started on Saturday. Muslims, during the 29/30 days of the holy month, stop eating or drinking everything from dawn to sunset.
The Egyptian government has decided to lift a ban imposed on Ramadan charity banquets known as “Mawaid Al-Rahman” where poor people gather in streets around huge tables of cooked food.
This comes after two years of suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The government will also allow sermons after the afternoon prayer and night prayers during Ramadan and will allow restaurants and cafes to remain opening their doors until 2 A.M.
As per the government’s decisions, weddings at the hotels’ indoor halls will be allowed under precautionary measures against the pandemic.
The working hours of the Cairo metro will extend for an extra hour until 2 A.M. during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr starting Saturday.
The Cairo metro, which run currently on three lines, will start operation at 5:15 A.M.
