CAIRO – 29 March 2022: The National Council for Climate Change was established per a 2015 law. It has since exerted many efforts that culminated in Egypt’s hosting of COP27 this year.
The National Council for Climate Change is responsible for the following:
1 – Set general state policies dealing with climate change in light of international conventions and national interests.
2 – Link national policies and strategies on climate change to sustainable development.
3 – Follow up negotiations on conventions of climate change and the resulting protocols and agreements.
4 – Blend the concepts of climate change into the national sustainable development strategy and sectorial plans and determine resources of the funding needed for such plans as well as find any international or regional funding opportunities.
5 – Increase scientific resources and research papers on climate change and follow up international reports on climate change.
6 – Raise the awareness of officials, decision makers, and the public on climate change.
7 – Merge knowledge on climate change in all stages of education.
8 – Capacity building of institutions and individuals to deal with climate change.
9 – Be in charge of the Egyptian Council for Clean Development.
