CAIRO – 12 July 2017: The Arab takes significant media decisions to combat terrorism of the Information Ministers chose Baghdad as the 2018 Arab media capital and asserted the adoption of Al-Quds as a permanent capital for the Arab media along with the annual capital.

The joint committee had the task which comprises its secretariat and the Arab media forum in Kuwait and country of the media capital city to usher final measures of celebrations of the annual capital.

The Arab States Broadcasting Union is called on to cooperate and coordinate with all news agencies and Arab TV channels to air the celebrations by the The council.

The council asserted that necessity to promote tolerance and to reject calls for injustice, discrimination and intolerance in all forms and not to air or publish any materials that could incite extremism, terrorism and disregard to the sovereignty of states.
The Arab States Broadcasting Union is demanded to draw up a plan for holding workshops and courses for editors and mediamen on how to tackle terrorist acts in cooperation and coordination with the secretariat of the council.

The ministers approved Iraq’s request to host the Arab media counter-terror observatory, with a detailed plan of the components of this body to be presented during the next meeting of the Arab media permanent committee.

As for the implementation of the Arab League summit’s resolutions, the council called on the ministries of information and media-related bodies in the member states to boost programs and projects that support the occupied city of Al-Quds. It urged programs to be allocated by Arab media outlets on Al-Quds and its residents and to uncover Judaization measures in the city.

The council referred the Arab declaration “supporting Arab action to eradicate terrorism” which has been adopted during the 28th summit of the Arab League to be applied by Arab media institutions.

A legal team will be formed to propose or amend laws and regulations to face TV channels that offend any Arab country, upon the Council Approval.
The council of the Arab information ministers hailed a recent Iraqi victory in the battle against the terrorist group of Daesh in Mosul. It called on Arab media to shed light on this victory and its importance in the collective war against terrorism.

The council’s approval on a report and recommendations of the 17th meetings of experts on the role of media in combating terrorism accompanied the Council’s assignment of the general secretariat of the Arab League on follow up the implementation of these recommendations.

The Arab ministers welcomed holding a roundtable meeting on the counter-terror role of media in Iraq later this year.

They also welcomed the outcome of a workshop that was held in Algeria on terrorism and extremism.

The council called on the member states, bodies and unions operating in the field of media to take the measures required to achieve the joint Arab media strategy’s anti-terror goals by hosting conferences, symposiums, meetings and workshops.
