CAIRO – 28 March 2022: Egypt’s Cabinet announced, Sunday easing COVID-related restrictions during the holy fasting month of Ramadan, to start early April, such as removing the ban on public charity iftar tables.
The Supreme Committee for the Management of the Epidemic and Health Pandemic Crisis affiliated with the Cabinet and headed by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, also agreed on keeping mosques and all of its affiliated buildings open during Ramadan for performing Tarawih prayers.
The closing hours of shops, restaurants and cafes has also been extended to 2 pm during the month of Ramadan.
It was also agreed to hold weddings and celebrations in closed halls in hotels, while adhering to precautionary measures, starting from April.
The meeting was attended with the participation of a number of ministers and officials, including Minister of Defense and Military Production, Minister of Endowments, Minister of Tourism, and Counselor Omar Marawan, Minister of Justice.
Also, Minsters of Education, Higher Education, Finance, Local Development, Interior, and Civil Aviation attended the meeting.
Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said on Saturday the number of total vaccinated people against the coronavirus reached 32 million, representing 52% of the targeted groups.
In a phone interview with Al Hayah TV channel, Abdel Ghaffar stressed no scientific connection was found between the severity of the virus and high temperatures over the past two years.
The spokesman noted the vaccination rates are going well, calling on all citizens to get the full doses.
He said over 1.8 million citizens had been vaccinated through a door-knocking campaign in seven governorates.
