CAIRO – 26 March 2022: Scores of people performed the funeral prayer in Omar Makram Mosque in Cairo on the soul of Ragaei Ateya, head of Egypt’s Lawyers’ Syndicate and the Arab Lawyers Union (ALU), who passed away on Saturday aged 84.
Ateya passed away after falling unconscious while attending a trial in a Giza court. Sources said Ateya was then moved by a hospital to a near hospital, where it was found that he had died by natural causes.
Ateya was a prominent lawyer, author, thinker and jurist. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Cairo University in 1959 and worked as a lawyer for 61 years.
He obtained a diploma in military sciences from the Military Academy in 1961 and also assumed various posts in the military courts from between 1961 and 1976.
