Security heightened at Cairo Stadium ahead of Egypt-Senegal match on Friday

CAIRO – 25 March 2022: The African Group security personnel have intensified security preparations in Cairo International Stadium ahead of Egypt-Senegal World Cup qualifying match at 9:30 PM local time on Friday.

The African Group has put together a list of prohibited items for the fans to carry during the match, including laser pointers, paint cans, fireworks, torches, cigarettes, loud noisy horns, sharp tools, and glass or metal containers and cups.

Also, alcohol, materials of a racist nature, promotional or advertising materials, and balls of all kinds are all prohibited.

Friday’s march is a first leg march and Egypt’s Pharaohs hope to achieve a positive result ahead of the second leg in Senegal next Tuesday.

Ahmed Fathi, director of Tazkarti, revealed that more than the capacity previously set for Egypt’s match against Senegal in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Qatar has been booked.

Fathi told Sada Al-Balad TV channel that nearly 65,000 tickets have been sold out, noting that the first and second class tickets have completely expired, and reservations for the rest of the classes are still ongoing.

"We have a statistic that tickets have been booked from 27 different governorates, which is a good thing," the director of Tazkarti revealed.

Friday's match brings back the memories of the AFCON final, which was played last February in Cameroon and saw the Senegalese winning their first AFCON title with a victory over the Pharaohs on penalties.
