CAIRO – 16 March 2022: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Singapore’s Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean discussed means of cooperation in the counterterrorism field.
The ministers held a meeting on Wednesday in Singapore, as part of Shoukry’s Asian tour that also included Malaysia.
The meeting discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that the ministers assessed the impacts of these issues.
Shoukry and Hean, also the chairman of Singapore’s Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change, discussed means of boosting cooperation and coordination in the field of climate during the coming period.
This comes in light of Egypt’s presidency of the 2022 UN Climate Conference (COP27) in November in Sharm El-Sheikh city. The ministers also discussed issues of interest between the two countries, the statement read.
He also met with his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Abdullah, Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, and Malaysian Senior Minister and International Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
During the meetings, Shoukry and the ministers discussed means to promote of boosting bilateral relations between Egypt and Malaysia in a way that meets the aspirations of the two friendly peoples and the joint interests in the trade and investment areas.
The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Malaysia hit around $1 billion in 2021, recording an increase of 80 percent compared to the previous year.
