CAIRO - 12 March 2022: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called for further cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations on climate change ahead of COP27 in Egypt as he received Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, on Saturday.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad attended the meeting, where they discussed preparation for the global climate summit in Sharm El Sheikh.
Egypt strives to build on the results of during COP26 in Glasgow to arrive at practical solutions and internationally applicable commitments with regards to climate challenges, and to mobilize international funding for the cause.
For her part, Espinosa looks forward to COP27 as a landmark summit on climate change, praising Egypt’s stance as one of the first developing countries to adopt decisive policies on the issue of climate change.
She also praised Egypt’s efforts at the level of biodiversity, green transformation, green cities, clean transportation, green bonds, as well as adopting the National Climate Change Strategy 2050.
