CAIRO – 10 March 2022: Head of the Anti International Terrorism Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Fouad stressed Wednesday Egypt's commitment to reinforce fellow African states' capabilities to combat terrorism.
Fouad noted that security elements from 34 African countries received training on relevant missions in Egypt in 2021. The training was delivered by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior.
The diplomat clarified that Egypt's initiatives stem from respecting the principle of the states' national ownership of anti-terror programs. In addition, out of a belief in the importance of combating extremist thought, experts from 21 African states joined training programs by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA).
The diplomat's statement came during his participation in the first meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat the Islamic State's focus group on Africa held in Roma over two days.
