CAIRO – 7 March 2022: Implementing both plans of turning Cairo Citadel Aqueduct into a tourist attraction and eliminating slums nationwide, Cairo Governorate Municipal Authority moved 25 families to Al Khayala residential compound located at Al Basatin neighborhood.

 

Deputy Cairo Governor Gihane Abdel Moneim told press Monday that those used to dwell the slums of El Sokar wa Al Laymoun, Hosh Al Ghagar, and Al Gayara. She added that the seven flat-buildings they lived in have been demolished.

 

Abdel Moneim stated in February that Beni Helal slum area located near Cairo Citadel Aqueduct had been entirely demolished.

 

The area consisted of 164 flat-buildings housing a total of 618 families, who were granted fully-furnished residential units at Al Asmarat neighborhood lying Eastern Cairo.

 

Asmarat is the largest alternative-housing project in Egypt, consisting of three phases containing a total 18,420 units. The cost of constructions in Asmarat alone is LE3.6 billion, while the value of the land on which it is built is LE2.5 billion.
