CAIRO – 28 February 2022: Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, received Monday Sidi Mohamed Abdullah, the Ambassador of Mauritania in Cairo; to discuss ways of cooperation between both countries in the educational and cultural fields.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed the depth of Egyptian-Mauritanian relations in various fields, especially higher education, pointing to the ministry's keenness to develop and consolidate these relations.
The minister added that the scholarships, offered to Mauritanian students to study in Egyptian universities, aim to increase and support cultural, scientific and social exchange between the two sides, stressing the ministry’s keenness to provide all aspects of support to Mauritanian students in Egyptian universities, and to provide the best environment for international students studying in Egyptian institutes, in light of the “Study in Egypt” initiative adopted by the ministry, which aims to support cooperation with different countries.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed mechanisms for activating more aspects of cooperation between the two countries in the educational and cultural fields, especially the situation of Mauritanian students studying in Egyptian universities, overcoming all the difficulties they face, and increasing the number of scholarships for them at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as discussing the exchange of experiences and faculty members.
For his part, the Mauritanian ambassador praised the Egyptian-Mauritanian relations, expressing his country's aspiration for more cooperation between the two countries during the coming period, especially in the fields of higher education and cultural exchange as one of the most important tributaries of historical relations between Egypt and Mauritania.
The ambassador further pointed to the increase in applications submitted by Mauritanian students to complete their studies in Egyptian universities thanks to the distinguished reputation of the Egyptian educational institutions.
The Mauritanian ambassador thanked the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for its keenness to provide all means of comfort for Mauritanian students, which was positively reflected in considering Egypt an important interface for Mauritanian students to complete their studies there.
The meeting was attended by the Egyptian side, Dr. Ashraf Al-Azzazi, Head of the Cultural Affairs and Missions Sector, Dr. Hajar Seif Al-Nasr, Acting Head of the Central Department for International Student Affairs, and from the Mauritanian side, Dr. Al-Mukhtar Al-Gilani, the cultural attaché at the Embassy of Mauritania in Cairo.
