CAIRO - 22 February 2022: The Cairo Criminal Court ruled on Tuesday to sentence the Egyptian Actor Shady Khalaf to three years in rigorous imprisonment over charges of harassment, indecent assault and attempting to rape seven women by force against their will during an acting training workshop.
The first court hearing in trial of the actor Shadi Khalaf kicked off in November 2021.
The Public Prosecution charged Actor Khalaf of sexually assaulting 7 ladies during his acting courses held at his studio.
In June, a series of posts were published on Instagram by Actor Abd El-Rahman Magdy, revealing testimonies by women who were subject to sexual assaults by Actor Shady Khalaf. All the testimonies agreed that Khalaf used his acting courses to commit his crime by convincing the victims to stay after the workshop for further practice.
In of his posts, Actor Abd El-Rahman called on women who still attend Khalaf’s acting courses to take care and speak up if they were victims too, promising to support them all to reveal the truth and send the perpetrator to court.
According to the new amendments, whoever is convicted of assaulting others in public or private places through sexual or pornographic gestures will be handed an imprisonment sentence ranging from two to four years and/or will be fined LE 100,000 at least and LE 200,000 at most.
This comes within the framework of Article 306 bis A.
Those who are convicted of repeating the crime will be imprisoned from three to five years and/or fined LE 200,000-300,000. Repeating the crime means doubling the minimum and maximum fine and prison terms, according to the amendments.
