Visually impaired teacher using the digital library for the first time in Alexandria

CAIRO – 15 February 2022: Many visually-impaired teachers expressed their delight with the first electronic library designed for the blind people that was launched in Alexandria.

 

Using the library, which uses braille writing system, the teachers said the system is advanced, resembling it as a laptop for the blind.

Mai Mohamed, a visually impaired teacher of French language, said that the device is very advanced, and has all capabilities of a normal computer, as it allows saving data and reusing it, and helps blind students to use the regular computer for study, as it connects to the internet.

 

Jibril Ahmed Al-Najjar, a teacher of English language teacher at a school, confirmed that the device is very advanced and is a qualitative leap for the education of blind students.

 

Al-Najjar said that the device has a large storage space of about 14 GB, and it is possible to store an entire library on it, and secondary education curricula have been placed on the device to help students.

He further added that the most important feature of the new advanced device is that it links the blind students with their sighted colleagues, so what the blind student writes appears on the screen for everyone.

 

He called on for more devices to be installed at different schools as it helps blind students to take their exams without assistance.  There are currently 6 devices in the library.
