CAIRO – 15 February 2022: Head of Fisheries Affairs at the General Authority for Fish Resources Development Atef Megahed stated in a phone-in Tuesday that fish production in Egypt grew by 40 percent over the past four years.
Megahed stated that the current annual production of fish in Egypt ranges between 1.8 million tons and two million tons.
The official partially attributed that rise to the cleansing of lakes showcasing the example of Lake Manzala, whose production jumped from 50,000 tons per annum to 80,000 tons.
It is noted that fisheries contribute to Egypt's fish production by 80 percent, while the rest come from wild fishing.
