Egypt’s Sisi meets with Norwegian Prime Minister in France’s Brest

CAIRO - 12 February 2022: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on Friday, met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Brest, France, said the Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady in a statement.
 
President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the recent development of relations between Egypt and Norway and looked forward to further enhancing cooperation with Norway across many fields, as well as enhancing coordination and consultation on issues of common interest, Rady said.
 
The Norwegian Prime Minister confirmed his country's keenness to boost relations with Egypt, noting its pivotal role in maintaining stability in the Middle East and Africa, Rady said, adding that the  Norwegian Prime Minister looked forward to intensifying the frameworks of cooperation between the two countries.
 
Both leaders touched on ways to advance relations between the two countries in areas of common interest, mainly the fields of energy and trade, in addition to benefiting from Norway’s experience in projects related to clean energy and transportation, Rady said.
 
The meeting also touched on ways to enhance trilateral cooperation between Egypt and Norway in Africa, in light of the interest of both sides to support development in the continent, in addition to discussing the possibility of localizing Norwegian investments in Egypt, given its favorable climate for investment and it being an export gateway to Africa.

They also discussed cooperation between the two sides to secure and facilitate international navigation, especially since the Suez Canal is one of the most vital corridors for international trade. 
 
The long-standing experience and various investments of Norway were stressed in this regard. During the meeting, they examined the possibility of establishing a mechanism for international cooperation to reduce marine pollution in light of the leading role of the two countries in this regard.
 
The meeting also discussed the latest developments of several regional files and issues of common interest. The Norwegian Prime Minister stressed Norway’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Egypt to maintain regional peace and security in the Middle East and Africa. 
 
The Prime Minister expressed, in this context, his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts to reach political solutions to the various crises in its turbulent region, thus contributing to restoring stability and security in the countries of the region.
