Qatar threatens Egyptian National Security, Saudi official

CAIRO – 12 July 2017: Saud Al-Qahtani, advisor in the Saudi Royal Diwan, wondered how Qatari authorities could believe that Egypt, a country with such history and with a large population, would be tolerant towards manipulation of its national security and committing terrorist acts against its people.

In a Monday Twitter post, Al-Qahtani published a group of questions wondering on commitments and pledges Qatar had previously signed as a part of the Riyadh Agreements of 2013 and 2014.

By the agreement of 2013, Sheikh Tamim promised to abide by the demands of the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as insuring the importance of establishing a new phase of fraternal relations.

In the agreement of 2014, Sheikh Tamim agreed to ending Doha’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood and the expulsion of all its affiliates from Qatar, and he also promised not to harbor persons with harmful agendas toward the GCC and not to support any organization fighting against the legitimate government in Yemen and Egypt.

Qatar also agreed to work with the GCC states in supporting Egypt and maintaining its security and stability, and, specifically, stopping “insults directed from Al Jazeera Media Channel and Al Jazeera’s Egypt Live.” It is worth noting that Qatar decided to disband and close down Mubasher Misr after the agreement was signed back then.

In early June, several countries, including Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, severed diplomatic ties with Doha over accusations of Qatar backing terrorist groups.

The countries closed airspace and maritime ports to Doha transportation.
