CAIRO- 6 February 2022: Egypt expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the Moroccan government, people, and the family of the child   Rayan Awram Rayan, who passed away Saturday evening, despite the tireless efforts of the Moroccan authorities in attempts to save him, said Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Sunday.

Moroccan child, 5 years, who was trapped in a 32-meter-deep well near Chefchaouen for around five days breathed his last on Saturday as heroic rescue teams dug a tunnel for days to reach the child.

“Egypt affirms its full support for Morocco in this painful affliction, which has reflected an uninterrupted global human solidarity over the past days, calling on the Almighty to inspire patience and solace to his [the child’s] parents and relatives,” the statement said.

Moroccan King Mohammed VI extended condolences to the family of the deceased child, who breathed his last and was pulled from the well.

The king confirmed that he was closely following Rayan’s incident and ordered exerting utmost efforts to save the life of the deceased but the will of God wanted him to come back to his Lord "well-pleased and well-pleasing."

Rescue teams had abandoned the option of digging into the water well due to dangers on the child and instead, bulldozers have been drilling vertically a hole parallel to the well and horizontally to reach the place of the child over the past days.

Rescuers had been also digging manually in the last stages of the rescue operation to avoid harming the child.
