Former Egyptian Minister of Local Development and former deputy intelligence chief Abdel Salam El-Mahgoub – FILE

CAIRO – 31 January 2022: Former Egyptian Minister of Local Development and former deputy intelligence chief Abdel Salam El-Mahgoub passed away on Monday aged 86 years.

The funeral prayers for Mahgoub will be held after the afternoon prayers in Al-Rashdan mosque in Cairo.

Mahgoub assumed the post of the minister of local development in 2006 during the tenure of late President Hosni Mubarak.

He served as the governor of the Mediterranean governorate of Alexandria between 1997 and 2006.

Mahgboub served as the deputy chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS). He also assumed a number of military posts, including the deputy head of national security, and served as the governor of Ismailia.

Mahgoub was born in Dakahlia governorate in 1935 and obtained a Bachelor of Military Science from the Military Academy in 1955.
