Egypt's President Sisi re-calls for reaching fair binding legal agreement on GERD

CAIRO- 29 January 2022:  Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi renewed his call for reaching a fair, balanced and binding legal agreement on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue.
 
During a joint press conference with his Senegalese counterpart Macky Sall, President Sisi said that talks with President Sall, who is visiting Egypt, dealt with Egypt's vision based on the fact that the Nile River is a basis for cooperation between the peoples of the region.
 
“We support the Senegalese presidency of the African Union, and we trust President Sall’s wise leadership in addressing the current challenges,” President Sisi said. President Sall is due to take over the presidency of the African Union (AU) in February 2022.
 
President Sisi said that the upcoming climate summit (COP27) that would be held in Sharm El Sheikh city in November 2022 will focus on the requirements of the African countries.
 
“We stressed that concerted efforts to confront Coronavirus pandemic and to curb its impact are a must,” President Sisi said, noting that Egypt is ready to support African countries against terrorism.
 
Senegalese President said at a press conference that he talked with President Sisi about security stability in African countries, the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), and manufacturing of Coronavirus vaccines.
 
Senegalese President also expressed congratulations to President Sisi for making Egypt the first African country to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines.
 
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, Saturday morning, President Macky Sall in Cairo, said Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady in a post on his official Facebook page.  Upon his arrival in Cairo, Sall was officially welcomed by President Sisi, while the presidential guards paraded and played the national anthems of both countries.
 
Both Presidents witnessed a number of bilateral agreements in the fields of electricity, renewable energy, antiquities, culture, sports, and mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and mission passports.
 
On May 19, 2021, President Sisi and Sall talked on the phone and agreed on joint coordination on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue and on stronger economic ties.
