CAIRO – 17 January 2022: Egypt has received 132 million coronavirus vaccine doses since the start of the pandemic and already used 60.5 million doses throughout its vaccination campaign, Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said.

In a Cabinet meeting, Abdel Ghaffar noted that 500,000 booster vaccine shots have been administered in Egypt to priority groups.

Children with ages ranging from 15 to 18 have received 1.4 million vaccine shots, while younger children of the age group 12-15 received 206,000 shots, Abdel Ghaffar added.

The state has also set a total of 1,393 vaccination centers nationwide, the minister added.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli called on citizens to get vaccinated and stick to the coronavirus precautionary measures.

Presidential Advisor for Health Affairs Mohamed Awad Tag Eddin, and Board Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and Technology Management (AUPP) Bahaa Eddin Zidan attended the meeting, along with a host of senior officials from relevant bodies.

Madbouli affirmed that unvaccinated citizens are barred from entering any public facilities or having access to government services until they get vaccinated against coronavirus.

Abdel Ghaffar briefed Madbouli on the pandemic situation in the country as well as the latest developments on the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

The acting health minister affirmed the vaccines' vital role in reducing mortality rates and hospitalization.
