CAIRO – 13 January 2022: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker told Egypt Today that the National Electricity Control Center being established at the New Administrative Capital (NAC) will start full operation by the end of 2022.
The minister added that the first phase is planned to work in the first quarter of the year. He clarified that the center's value is LE840 million ($52.5 million), and it will be regulating the transmission and distribution of electricity across the grid.
The minister had stated in December that 3,636 megawatts were added to the grid over 8.5 months at a cost of LE47 billion (almost $3 billion).
Egypt’s electricity sector succeeded in transforming the electrical capacity deficit from 6,000 megawatts in 2014 to a surplus of 13,000 megawatts in 2020, after adding about 28,000 megawatts of electrical capacity, equivalent to 13 times the capacity of the High Dam.
