CAIRO- 23 December 2021: The Egyptian Foreign Ministry lit up its headquarters downtown Cairo on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday.
 
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry attended the ceremony of the 75th anniversary of the UNICEF, and delivers a speech regarding the cooperation between Egypt and the UNICEF.
 
Shoukry said that the celebration reflects the distinguished cooperation between Egypt and UNICEF that lasted for decades to support national efforts related to the promotion of children’s rights.
 
“Egypt pays special attention to the promotion of human rights in general and the children’s rights in particular, as it is an essential component of Egyptian society. The Presidential National Human Rights Strategy, which included a special theme on children's rights, is the best proof of that,” said Shoukry in his speech at the celebration on Wednesday.
 
He emphasized Egypt’s ongoing cooperation with international partners as well and civil society to achieve the best interests of children and ensure that they enjoy his rights guaranteed by the constitution and national laws.
 
“The Egyptian state has taken many important steps at the legislative, institutional and executive levels to promote children’s rights, such as the National Strategy for Childhood and Motherhood (2018-2030), and the establishment of Child Protection Departments nationwide,” he said.
 
Shoukry added Egypt also provided a help line for operating the children protection and expanded  a social welfare umbrella for children within the “Solidarity and Dignity” program. 
 
On the legislative level, Egypt strengthened its efforts to combat the Female genital mutilation (FGM), eliminate child marriages, confront the phenomenon of bullying, and intensify the penalties related to these crimes, Shoukry added.
 
The Foreign Minister said that Egypt-UNICEF cooperation will be boosted in light of the new UNICEF Country Program for the period 2023-2027.
 
UNICEF Representative in Egypt Jeremy Hopkins affirmed theinternational organization's work with Egypt, thanking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Antqiuities for ighting up the pyramids, the sphinx in blue and to "MOFA for sending the message through the windows of the ministry to mark the occasion."
