Islam forbids burning plants, cutting palm trees, polluting water: Egypt’s Mufti

CAIRO- 18 December 2021: Islam promotes the protection of the environment as Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessing be Upon Him) forbade burning plants, cutting palm trees and polluting the environment in general and water in particular, said Egyptian Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam at the third scientific conference for the environment and sustainable development, organized by Al Azhar University, on Saturday.

 

The three-day conference kicked off Saturday and was titled “Climate change: Challenges and Confrontation”, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

 

“The issue of climate change does not threaten only one country, but rather it is a threat to the whole world, and each of us must confront such challenges in his own field,” said Allam.

 

He added that the role of religious scholars is to support environmentalists because the Islamic Sharia applies the principle of bringing the benefit of the people.

 

The conference is discussing a number of climate change-related themes in the fields of energy, health, the role of carbon emissions in environmental pollution, climate change effectiveness in the industry.

 

Also, seminars and workshops will be held at the sidelines of the conference, in preparation for the United Nations Conference COP27 that will be hosted by Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2022.
