CAIRO – 17 December 2021: The ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (CoSP) in Sharm El-Sheikh will conclude its activities on Friday.
Sharm El-Sheikh witnessed important international events from December 13 to 17. It was chaired by Hassan Abdel Shafi, President of the Administrative Control Authority in Egypt.
A number of international officials and more than 2,700 persons from around the world attended the conference.
The conference has set the international agenda to combat and prevent corruption in the coming years.
The ninth session south to encourage efforts to promote sustainable development, recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, ensure economic and political stability.
Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ghada Waly has emphasized the necessity of international cooperation meant to confront illicit financial flows, stressing that this issue comes on top of the UN priorities.
Waly made the remarks as part of a speech she delivered at a session titled “Role of financial investigation units in combating illicit financial flows” that is held on the sidelines of the 9th session of CoSP.
The official highlighted the role of financial investigation units in countering illicit financial flows, most notably the proceeds from corruption offence.
