CAIRO- 17 December 2021: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, on Friday afternoon, inspected a number of development projects in Old Cairo, including the ongoing restoration work at the Cairo Citadel Aqueduct (Mamluk Aqueduct).
The Aqueduct was established to carry water to the citadel, more than 600 years ago during the reign of Sultan Al-Nasir Salah Al-Din Al-Ayyubi, the founder of the Ayyubid State in Egypt (from 1169 AD until 1193).
The president also was updated on the latest developments of other construction projects such as roads, axes and bridges, in light of the Development of Historic Cairo project, which aims to turn Old Cairo into it a developed tourist destination, said Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady in a statement.
President Sisi also exchanged greetings with citizens and workers in a pottery workshop in Old Cairo, where he listened to their requests and needs.
